Building Community

At Schoolhouse Apartments, we offer our residents more than just a safe and pleasant place to live: we offer community. Our Resident Services Coordinator organizes activities that encourage our residents to interact and get to know each other. We regularly assess the effectiveness of our programs and seek out new opportunities to assist our residents.

Promoting Healthy Living

Our Resident Services Coordinator facilitates medical and social services for our residents. The RSC also promotes programs that educate residents on healthy living to enable them to enrich their physical health and promote general wellness. In 2020, with the help of Boy Scouts Troop 70, we constructed a series of raised garden beds that allow residents to grow their own herbs and vegetables.

Preserving New Canaan History

The building that Schoolhouse Apartments occupies was originally constructed as a middle school in 1931 by the Town of New Canaan. The new school helped to relieve the growing student population at the high school next door, now the headquarters of the New Canaan Police Department. The building is a fine example of red brick Colonial Revival architecture. During the renovation of the building to convert it to affordable senior housing in 1992 and 1993, the original tower clocks were restored.
